The Southeast Wisconsin Festival of Books is pleased to announce the 2012 program theme “Freedom to Read.” With its strong election-year echoes, this theme provides a framework for discussion at each age level about the vital role reading, literacy and intellectual freedom play in our ability to understand and engage not just in our own political process, but the global community and how creative freedom and diversity help us achieve our own highest potential individually and collectively.
The 2012 program will have at its core presenters from multiple genres whose work either discusses topics surrounding how freedom (whether personal, creative or political), contributes to a rich creative and intellectual fabric or whose work itself contributes to that fabric by its topic or technique. In keeping with the Festival project, the emphasis will be on authors from Wisconsin or with Wisconsin ties.
