This year in Authors In The Schools, participating students were given the opportunity to enter a writing contest sponsored by AllWriters’ Workplace & Workshop. All students were given the same prompt. They had to start their piece with the words, “There were days when the wall was too large.” They were allowed to change it into present tense, “There are days when the wall is too large,” or future tense, “There would be days when the wall is too large,” but that was the only change allowed. They could write poetry, fiction, or nonfiction, up to 500 words. Then they had to bring their piece to the Southeast Wisconsin Festival of Books on November 2 and drop it off at the AllWriters’ table.
